Montessori Academy of Spartanburg

Where children love to learn and learn to love.

Pre-Primary:    18months-3years

The Pre-Primary Classroom is an environment prepared to meet the needs of the toddler. Various materials give the child a sense of satisfaction as he/she learns to be more independent and develops confidence and a sense of “I can do it.”

Primary:  3-6years

The Primary Classroom is designed especially for the child and the entire environment is created to facilitate their learning process. The curriculum satisfies the natural tendency for this age child to learn by doing. Independence, coordination, order, self-discipline and concentration are developed. Children work individually and cooperatively with materials that engage their curiosity. The children are given lessons using the materials and then are free to explore and observe. An emphasis is placed on the process rather than the product of learning.

Lower Elementary:       6-10 years
Junior Elementary:       9-12years

It is at the elementary level that children become fascinated with the “how” and the “why” of everything. By applying what the student learned in the primary classroom the elementary child becomes an explorer of the universe in a more profound way. They are entering a period of imagination, reason, socialization, and moral justice. The freedom allowed and the responsibility expected in the classroom enables the child to develop a strong sense of self esteem and inner discipline that is carried throughout the child’s life of learning. The elementary program is an integrated curriculum.
